How Long does it take to replace my utility box?If your Gas or Electric Box is surface mounted then fitting should take around 30 minutes. If you have a have an inset box then fitting should take around 2 hours.

How do I know which box I need?If you are unsure as to what Box you need please give us a call or email and a customer services advisor will help you determine which box is the correct box.

Who is responsible for maintaining or replacing my meter box?Generally it is the property owner or tenant who is responsible for replacing your meter box. By law your outside meter should be covered by BS standard box.

Are meter boxes a legal requirement in the UK?Yes, meter boxes are a legal requirement for gas and electricity meters in the UK. The Electricity Act 1989 requires that all meters used for billing purposes are installed in an approved manner and are of an approved pattern or construction. The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 require that meters are installed in a meter box or meter compound that meets certain regulations.These regulations include: The meter box must be constructed to prevent gas from entering the premises in the event of a fire. The meter box must be readily accessible for inspection and maintenance. The meter box must not contain any combustible materials

Gas & Electric Meter Box Regulation
As per the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 it is a legal requirement of the home/property owner to ensure that a Gas Meter is property secured in a sealed meter box to allow any excess gas to be emitted into open air.
The Electricity Act 1989 also states that an outside electric meter should be properly covered with a lockable box with an accessible door which can only be accessed using a key.
Meter boxes must be located on the outside of a wall
Must be accessible from the front of the property
Must be kept secure and free from damage
Should not open onto a footpath or right of way
Can be placed next to a gas meter box, but not above or below it
Be between 500mm and 1000mm above finished ground level
